“LIFE”  THE TRAIL  OF THE RETICHE ALPS

The itinerary, planned and realised by the Regional Authority for Agriculture and Fhrsstry Services (ERSAF) between 2003 and 2006, in collaboration with the Schools of Mountaineering, Skialp and Climbing of Val Chiavenna and Val Masino, is part of the RETICNET project (see report here) and has been financed with funds from the European Community and the Lombardy Region. It crosses 5 Sites of Community Interest (SIC) and 3 Special Protection Zones (ZPS), characterized by a contrasting bio-diversity for habitats, flora and fauna; In fact, the trail starts from a lowland wetland  zone (Pian di Spagna 200m) and ends in a glacial area located at the foot of Disgrazia Mountain, crossing fhrssts, alpine grasslands and rocky peaks. The trail can be completed in 5/6 days and has a total length of about 85km. Although it does not require a specific mountaineering preparation, given its length, some exposed and equipped passes and the altitude reached, the Calvo pass (2.700m) and the Romilla pass (2.546m), it is only recommended to experienced hikers with excellent physical training.
